The Alumni Association of Government of Aizawl College organized the first online Alumni Meet over Zoom on the 10th September 2021 at 8 pm. Two hundred and fifteen people comprising of alumni, current students and faculty members attended the meet. Five eminent alumni were invited as key speakers.
The meet was chaired by Dr. Lalthansangi, retired Vice Principal, who acknowledged the diversity of the alumni in terms of their success stories and the roles they play in society. The first speaker was Mr. Lalhruaitluanga, author of Aizawlah Aizawler, which was awarded ‘Book of the Year’ in 2016. He transported the attendees to a time when he regularly frequented the library and read an article on ‘Coca Cola’, which instilled in him not only a love for reading but a realization of the power of reading as a mode of communication. A strong advocate of reading as an essential element of character building, he attributed the camaraderie and bond that was shared amongst students to ‘GAC Today’ the erstwhile official college newsletter.
The second speaker Mr. John Neihlaia, Inspector General of Police spoke on the importance of selective reading, social media awareness and time management. He stressed on the importance of making plans quoting, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” While highlighting the undeniable role that educational success plays in pursuing any career, he explained that times have changed and we live in an era where our passions can be turned into careers.
The third speaker Mr. Brandon Vanlalremdika, a professional footballer who plays for Mohammedan SC, thanked his Alma Mater for the support and encouragement he received which enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming a professional football player.
The fourth and final speaker Mr Stephen Auhmun, a much-loved judge on the show ‘LPS Comedian Search’ fondly recollected his time as a member of the Students’ Union and credited GAC with providing an unconventional platform for bringing out hidden talents in the students such as the stand-up comedian competition where he won first place.
The session ended with a lively interaction between the alumni, students and faculty members.
