The Department of Economics, in collaboration with Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Ltd. Mumbai, organised an awareness programme on the Securities Market in India on the 25th January 2024 (Thursday) at 2.30 pm. The programme was conducted online via Google Meet and 60 participants from 2nd Semester BA Economics Major attended the programme. Participants learnt crucial information from the speaker, Ms. Marina Jose of the BSE Investors' Service Fund, on a variety of topics related to investing in the securities market. The speaker touched upon a number of investment alternatives, including shares, mutual funds, gold, sovereign gold bonds, bank fixed deposits, bank recurring deposits, and post office recurring deposits. The speaker focused on common mistakes made by investors as well as how to choose a company for investment purposes. The speaker also highlighted eight significant concepts related to investment principles and suggested a set of guidelines to be followed prior to purchasing shares, all in line with the programme's goal of eliminating common misconceptions and anxieties about investing in shares.

The programme envisioned for participants to develop an understanding of financial planning and the advantages of starting early in order to boost their confidence and increase their stock market investment outcome to attain financial independence.
