Under the tutelage of the Entrepreneurship Knowledge Cell, Vanlalthlamuana (Roll No. 2102BCOM073) from the Department of Commerce won the Second Prize at the National Hackathon on Waste Reduction conducted by NIT Mizoram and Mizoram Pollution Control Board during August-September 2023. The prize carried a cash award of Rs. 10,000 and a certificate. The Hackathon was organised with the objectives of finding innovative solutions for waste reduction and management, identifying valuable resources from waste and solution for its effective utilization, and booting young intellectuals to apply reasoning and problem solving skills to solve real world problems at the grassroots level. 

Thlamuana came up with a problem close to home (literally) and proposed “Recycling Single-Use Plastic Bottles and Old Puan Into Doormats and Whiteboard Dusters”. He submitted the proposal on 25th August, got shortlisted and then delivered the presentation on 5th September. He received his prize on 6th September at the closing function held at the Police Headquarters Auditorium, Khatla.
