The Department of History organized an Environmental Awareness Campaign at the Synod Conference Centre, Aizawl, on the 23rd October 2017. It was sponsored by the N.L.U.P. Implementing Board, Govt. of Mizoram. The inaugural session began at 10:30 am, chaired by Mrs. Kailianchhungi, Associate Professor and the present Head of Dept. The Principal and Guest of Honour, Mr. _, delivered a welcome address, while Mr. K. Lalhruaia, the keynote speaker, addressed issues relating to the environment, its degradation and preventive measures. The Chief Guest, Mr. P. L Thanga, I.A.S. (Rtd), Vice Chairman, N.L.U.P. Implementing Board, highlighted environmental concerns and governmental policies regarding N.L.U.P. towards the promotion of environmental awareness throughout the state. Mr. Lalbiakzuala, ex-President, Central Y.M.A, resource person in the second session, also discussed the theme of the campaign within the specific context of Mizoram raising the current and future challenges posed by ongoing environmental problems.
The event was attended by over four hundred students and faculty members from various departments in the college. Students of V Semester, History Core, presented songs and a short play centred around the theme of the campaign. Each technical session was followed by a vibrant round of discussion, hosted by Dr. Lalnunpuii Ralte and Mr. K. Lalhruaia, Dept.of History. Participants engaged with the resource persons, raised questions, shared comments and experiences which contributed to the success of the campaign. The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to the N.L.U.P. Implementing Board, Principal and staff, and all the students who attended the campaign. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Cindy Lalfakawmi, Asst.Professor, Dept.of History.
