The college had a felicitation program for alumnus, Lalhruaitluanga Chawngte, who recently won the coveted Book of the Year 2021 award for his book "Hnam Ropuite U, Tho R'u Le" from the Mizo Academy of Letters. Lalhruaitluanga had graduated from Govt. Aizawl College in 2001 with English Honours, and is an active member of the college Alumni Association. He works as a journalist for the daily newspaper, The Aizawl Post. He has written three books, one of which "Aizawlah Aizawler," a collection of contemporary social essays, also received the Book of the Year award in 2016. Hruaitluanga's latest literary prizewinner, "Hnam Ropuite U, Tho R'u Le" is also a collection of 26 prose essays, each one showcasing a historic moment or episode of the fabled Mizo "tlawmngaihna" in action right up to the Covid-19 times. The book is an uplifting and inspiring tribute to the nobility and integrity of the traditional Mizo spirit, and richly deserving of the MAL award.

The function today, the 26th April 2022, was held in the college Conference Hall. Professor C. Vanlalhruaia, Head, Dept. of Mizo, presided over the function, and the Principal, Mrs. Hmingpuii Poonte, presented Lalhruaitluanga with a framed citation. In his speech, Hruaitluanga reminisced about his college days twenty years ago as a Students' Union leader, and also spoke about his new book, his surprise at winning the prestigious award and how he had got into the writing profession.

The program was attended by several faculty members and students from the 4th semester.
