Students from the English Department participated in the Mizoram English Literary Society (MIELS) LitFest conducted at Pachhunga University College on the 7th September 2023.
Three categories of competitions were organized for college students:
(i) On-the-spot poetry writing
(ii) Short story writing
(iii) Beat Contest
The College Music Club Band attained second place in the Beat Contest for their performance of two songs from Paper VIII (Popular Studies) of the B.A English course - “Imagine” and “Let it Be”. They competed against five other bands who represented various colleges of Aizawl.
Rosalynd Lallawmsangi, of the 3rd Semester English Department, won first prize in both the Poetry and Short Story Writing Competitions. Her poem was titled “The Path of Freedom or Love”, while she penned “A Class XII Reunion” for the short story competition. Lalnunmawii of the 3rd Semester, English Department, also took home a consolation prize for her poem “Hypocrite Society.” As many as 46 poem entries and 19 short stories were submitted and adjudged at this year’s LitFest.
Thanks to the amazing contribution and performances of the students, they were able to catapult Govt. Aizawl College to become the resounding overall victor at the event.
