In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, a webinar on the 1st War of Independence 1857 (Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav India @75) organized by the Departments of Art & Culture and Higher & Technical Education, was hosted by the Department of History, Govt. Aizawl College on the 10th May 2021. The webinar was part of a series of seminars on the topic conducted at various colleges throughout the state at the behest of the two government departments. While the webinar had been intended to be held at the college conference hall, total lockdown imposed by the Government of Mizoram due to Covid-19 meant it had to be conducted over the worldwide web.

The inaugural session began at 11 am and was chaired by the Principal, Prof. C. Sangluaii. The keynote address was delivered by Smt. Nazuk Kumar, Director, Higher & Technical Education, Mizoram. Mrs. Carol VL MS Dawngkimi, Joint Director, Art & Culture, gave a vote of thanks.

The technical session started at 12.30 pm and was moderated by Mr. Lalbiakzuala, Associate Professor, History, Govt. Aizawl College. Two papers were then presented – The First War of Indian Independence 1857: an Overview by Dr. Lalnunpuii Ralte, Assistant Professor, History, Govt. Aizawl College, and The First War of Indian Independence: Nature and Impact in Northeast India by Mr. K. Lalhruaia, Assistant Professor, History, Govt. Aizawl College.

The webinar, conducted on a college Zoom account, was attended by History Core students from the 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters, as well as several faculty members and other guests. 125 participants joined the inaugural session while the technical session had 105 attendees. E-certificates will be sent to participants who require one.
