The college Huiva Cultural Club won first prize in the Cultural Dance Competition for Educational Institutions on the 31st August & 1st September 2023 at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl. Organised by the Mizoram Cultural Organization, State Education Department, Tourism Department and Mizoram Sports Council, the competition was held in three categories – at the Middle School, High & Higher Secondary School, and College/University levels. The Huiva Cultural Club bagged the college/university category which had 14 teams from various colleges within the state competing for the grand prize.
Each team had to perform two dances – the Cheraw and Chheihlam, and winners were judged from the highest accumulated points scored for both performances. The Govt. Aizawl College Huiva Cultural Club was awarded the prestigious trophy, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 50000/- The event was also shown live on local TV stations as well as the MCO YouTube channel for the duration of the competition.
The college has had a cultural troupe for several years initially under the patronage of the Students' Union Social & Cultural Department but in 2016 they formally named themselves the Huiva Cultural Club with their own office bearers and members. They have three faculty-in-charge and three Alumni Mentors who play an active role in all club activities.
