On the 20th September 2021, Mr. K. Lalhruaia, Assistant Professor, Department of History, passed away due to Covid-19. He was 45.
Born on the 15th November 1975 as the fourth of seven siblings, his father died young and he overcame great financial constraints, working whatever odd jobs he could find, to put himself through college and university. He finished his BA from Aizawl North College and joined NEHU for his MA in History in 1999. In 2001, he completed his Masters and immediately got a job at the Adventist Training School in Jowai, Meghalaya. In 2008, he joined the History department of Govt. Aizawl College as a Contract lecturer and was regularised in 2015.
Around the 11th September he began running a high fever and undertook RAgT tests with his family (as per government procedure). While his family all tested positive, he did not. He undertook another RAgT test at Greenwood Hospital the next day which again marked him negative. His health continued to worsen, with breathing problems and low blood pressure. An RT-PCR test was undertaken but before the results could be known, his condition took a turn for the worse and at 2 am on the 19th, he was rushed to hospital. A few hours hours later, his PCR result proved to be positive and he was shifted to the Covid care centre at Zoram Medical College. On arrival however, his condition was already extremely critical and did not improve. At 7.20 pm of the 20th September, he succumbed to the illness.
He leaves behind a wife and three young children, the eldest of whom is presently studying in the 1st semester at the college. In a gesture of solidarity, the college will waive admission fees for his daughter as she continues her education at the institution.
The college deeply grieves the sudden and untimely passing of Mr. Lalhruaia.
