On September the 2nd 2022, the college observed “Session Ice Breaker 2022: Mentors and Mentees”. This was initiated by the GAC IQAC Mentoring Cell to ensure that student mentoring be carried out by all teaching faculty for all students. All classes were suspended for this day and 1st semester Arts students who normally have classes at the Sikulpuikawn campus commuted to the new Mualpui campus to meet their respective mentors.
Time slots were arranged by the concerned Cell to ensure manageability of the process -
10:00 am – 11:30 am - All 1st Semesters
11:30 am – 1:00 pm - All 5th Semesters
1:00 pm – 1:30 pm - Lunch Break
1:30 pm onwards : All 3rd Semesters
Rooms were also allotted to each faculty member so that every mentor could engage with their mentees on a private and confidential level. The entire session was successfully carried out with mentors noting details of their mentees which will be maintained by the Cell for necessary documentation.
The system of student mentoring, mandated by the UGC, was introduced at the institution in early 2016 with mixed success. While some departments carry out mentoring duties diligently, others are not as active. It is hoped that with this ice-breaking session, student mentees will find it easier to approach their mentors for assistance and support, and mentors will readily give time and guidance as necessary.
