A Special Lecture on "Mizo Ṭawng Ṭobul leh a Chhehvel" (The origins of the Mizo Language and its context) was organised by the Dept. of Mizo on the 31.01.2020. Mr. B. Lalthangliana, Mizo historian, and two-time MAL Book of the Year awardee (1989 & 1993) was the Resource Person for the programme. It was attended by the 6th semester Mizo Core students and all faculty members of the Mizo department.

The Resource Person delivered an absorbing lecture on the history of the Mizo people and language and his own exhaustive research in Myanmar and China. He spoke of how he had traced the origins of the Mizos to the year 1200 AD and how they fled the Kabaw Valley due to the Shan tribe - "Kan aia hnam huaisen zawk hlauvin kan tlanchhia a" (We fled from a tribe that was more fearless than ours), ascending Than mountain that was so high (8500 mts), cotton buds could not blossom or rice plants ripen. From there the Mizo people dispersed to various places within the nearby boundaries of India, some settling in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, etc and the majority in Mizoram. A lively interactive session followed with several students posing a number of questions which the Resource Person himself admitted were hard to answer.

The programme was amiably concluded with a photo session.
