On the 31st of January, 2020, a career guidance programme ‘Workshop on Career Awareness’ was organized by the Department of Economics and the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Career Counselling & Placement Cell, RUSA, at Government Aizawl College. Mr. Lalhruaitluanga, Managing Director, ZoCareer Solutions was invited to be the resource person. The programme was chaired by Prof. LG Singh, Head of the Department of Commerce. Faculty members from the concerned departments were also in attendance throughout.
The resource person spoke on the topic ‘Planning Your Career’, exhorting students to think of themselves as solutions to the problems and issues plaguing Mizoram while setting their career goals. In attendance were VIth Semester students from the Departments of Economics and Commerce. The session was conducted in an interactive manner and was comprehensive in its scope, including a question round. Two students - Jerry Lalrempuia (B.Com VIth Sem.) and Emelyn K. Zoramsiami (B.A. Eco. VIth Sem.) were rewarded with copies of a book titled ‘Zirna Kailawn’ authored by the resource person.
The workshop was tailored especially for Commerce and Economics students; various job opportunities available to them were listed out, with the application and entry procedures explained in detail. The opportunities pointed out ranged from corporate sector jobs, government services, the armed forces as well as the banking sector. Entrepreneurship as a career option was also mentioned in brief.
The resource person implored the students to cultivate the “lost” habit of reading and to develop their writing skills, advising moderate and strategic use of mobile phones. He ended the workshop with a passionate plea for the attendees to go the extra mile and to strive to make productive use of their time.
The Workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Mr. R. Lalchhuanawma, Head, Department of Economics.
