The Mentoring Cell, IQAC-GAC, organised a faculty workshop as a preparation for the Icebreaking Mentoring Session to be held on the 2nd September 2022. The Resource Person was Dr. Mary L. Renthlei, Associate Professor, Department of Education and Co-ordinator of the Mentoring Cell, Government Aizawl College. Mrs. Zothanchami, Chairperson of Mentoring Cell hosted the workshop and gave a brief speech at the onset of the programme.
The Resource Person gave an informative presentation on the topic ‘Workshop on Mentoring’ and highlighted the concept and importance of mentoring. She elaborated on ways to be an amazing mentor and stressed the need to understand individual differences of each mentee. Effective mentoring enhances student performance, retention of knowledge, and commitment. The Resource Person concluded her presentation with an Action Plan and Mentoring format which will be utilized at the Icebreaker Mentoring Session.
The workshop was attended by thirty four faculty members which was conducted over the Google Meet platform.
It may be noted that the college has been using the student mentoring system since mid 2016 but with several new faculty members joining the institution since then and the two-year break from offline education due to the pandemic, it was felt necessary to conduct the workshop as a reminder of the essential basics of student mentoring.
